Dear Friends

For those that didn't get to hear it, here is the transcript of my BBC Radio Solent Morning Thought, all about shining a
bright light in the world and being happy.

Enjoy.

Tuesday
Hello and good morning, it's been a while since I shared my thoughts with you and it's lovely to be on the airwaves again.

This week I would like to talk about shining brightly in your daily life. What on earth do I mean by that?

Well we often meet people who seem bright and lively, happy in their daily business and we look at them and wonder, why are they so bright and cheerful? Actually what we are asking is, why am I not as bright and cheerful as that person?

There may be a lot of reasons that we give ourselves;

                    I've had bad new today

Nothing good happens in my life

                                                                  I'm  stressed

I'm too busy to be happy.

Do you recognise any of these reasons to not be a bright shining light to the world? I know I do and for many years I did not see the value of happiness. That happiness is infectious, the happiness we bring to the world is shared with other happy and also unhappy people.

Happiness is an antidote to the bad events and evil deeds that occur in the world. We can show happiness to others; and the kindness of sharing can bring hope to those that need it, our family, friends, colleagues and people we don't yet know.

Tomorrow I will give an example of an extremely powerful light that can be an example to us all. Until then be bright.

Wednesday
Good morning, are you feeling bright and shiny today?

Yes, great.

No, why not?

What is in the way, what clouds are covering your lightness-of-being and stopping you from shining? More importantly, can you let them go and shine
on?

Imagine the sun for a moment (I know we may not see as much sun as we would like in the UK).  What is its purpose? The sun exists to shine light and bring warmth to all that can see and feel it. The components it is made from are designed to create that light and warmth, nothing else, just to sit there and shine.  And it will do this for another 4 billion years, by which time even Julian Clegg's breakfast show may have stopped broadcasting (although you can never be sure!).

Now imagine (no matter what your religious or non religious belief may be) what if my role on earth is to imitate the sun? What if my heart, mind and body are here to shine and bring light to the world? Because that is all there is to do, the feelings in my heart, the thoughts in my mind and the actions of my body are fuelled by this bright light that is always happy.

And anything that I do that is not happy, whenever my light cannot be seen by others, that is like putting a cloud in front of the sun. It is not because I am not shining, it is that I have put something in the way  to stop it being seen. Which is not a bright thing to do.

More tomorrow, in the meantime keep on shining to the people in your world.

Thursday
Good morning, were you shiny and bright yesterday? Will you be shiny and bright today? If there are clouds blocking the light of your sun, can you blow them away and show your sunlight to your world?

The acid test for this question would be to ask the people that you see every day, those you share your space with, family, friends and colleagues, can you see my light? Am I shining brightly?

This may be like asking "does my bum look big in this?".

A scary question, what if the answer is no, will I be devastated? Or will I thank the person for the answer and consider what I can do to be happier........ shinier.......... brighter to the world. It would be a waste to be a shining light and no one to be able to see it.

My non shiny behaviour may mean I have decided not to smile, or take time to chat cheerfully, listen to someone in need who has chosen me to share their concerns, in the hope I may be interested in their situation.

Oh.......... but I don't have time to be happy and share my time with others, listening to their sob stories. Don't you?

What is more important in the world than being a shining example of happiness to your partner, your child, your parent, your friend or your un-friend?

Is it earning cash, buying stuff and rushing to your next destination?

I hope the answer is no.... it is not more important and tomorrow I will explain
why.

Friday
Good morning, this week I have been talking about being bright and shiny and sharing your lightness with others in your world, in the same way the sun shines in a cloudless sky.

Why is being bright and shiny important?

Well what weather do you like? Do like dreary, cloudy wet and dark days in June? No I didn't think so, you prefer to have light and dry and warm weather............ so do I.

But our weather is unpredictable we get lots of weather we don't like as well as the bright sunny days. And people can be like that as well. Bright one day, dull the next. Willing to be shiny and happy today but unhappy and harder to approach on another day.

What if we could be bright, shiny and happy every day? Well for the most part we can, but may choose not to.

Think of someone you consider to be happy, what are the things about them you remember? That they smile a lot, always have a cheery word, take time to listen and nothing is too much trouble.

Has that person had a charmed life, are they a millionaire, do they have lots of possessions and wealth?

I suspect they don't, but that they choose life as there most precious possession, not just theirs, but all life everywhere. They love life, they love people, they love to share their goodness and happiness with everyone.

And THEY are YOU, you just don't know it yet. Have a shiny weekend and let everyone see your happiness and kindness.
